This motif is bordering on cliche. The princess is trapped in a tower. The tower is guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. The brave men of the realm are called upon to rescue the princess. The hero gets the girl. I guess this whole thing depends on some blind faith on the part of these stickmen. What makes the princess so great? I guess she is most likely rich, but her level of wealth could be anywhere along a wide spectrum. You hope she is a nice person and attractive, but how do you know those things without close contact? Personally, I would not risk it to save the princess.
